A Meaningful Life.
A Meaningful Life
What does it truly mean to have a meaningful life? This is a tricky question to answer because of my age. However, in the time that I’ve spent in this world so far, I have noticed that it is hard to live a good life without finding a purpose. Many people do not know their meaning yet in this world, and I am proudly one of those people. Every day I figure out new things that interest me and bring me joy. I find out new things that hurt me and new things that irk me. Life is a constant motion of learning new things about yourself. You never stop learning about yourself. I believe that the more you live, the more you discover and uncover the truths about who you are. These truths and your interests will ultimately influence how the world perceives you. In other words, what you would bring to the table to make a difference in this world, is something that means a lot to me. I want to leave this world knowing I have lived a life worth living. I did everything I desired, no matter how others viewed me. To me, living a meaningful life is to live without fear. To be spontaneous and adventurous. Try new things because that’s how you figure out what you like. People judge others because of fear, which looks like a risk, whether looking different or not fitting into the societal norm. People are scared to take those risks, to be different. People live out of fear because of how they could be perceived in this world. Those are the people who are not living their lives to the fullest. And to me, that’s not a very meaningful life because you are living for others.
My life right now is in a transition period. I just graduated from Kalaheo High School, where I was very active in student life. So I hope to be that same way at WCC. I chose WCC because I’m trying to see if college is for me, which I hope is because I want a degree to help me be financially stable. Once I receive my liberal arts degree, I will transfer to a 4-year university. I would like to attend an HBCU, a historically black college, to learn more about my people and our history. One university that stands out to me is Prairie View A&M because they have the college life that I want to experience.
I hope to have fun in college because I don’t want to be in a stressful environment. I would like to look forward to something like a college party or the different fun activities they have. I’m the type of person to try to look for the fun in everything, and my dad says that’s a bad thing in this situation. His brief is that I should focus only on school because that’s what I’m there for. Even though I agree with him, I think that if you only focus on school and the stress that comes, you’re not going out and experiencing new things. Then are you living a meaningful life? Are you enjoying your time here on earth? I want to enjoy my college days and, of course, take time for my studies and responsibilities, but at the same time, I’m not going to be locked away in my room solely fixated on my academics to the point where it’s too stressful, and I’m unhappy. I like to think of school as an investment to work toward a degree that interests me. This way, I can always lean back on my degree if my business plan doesn’t work out. I’m very interested in entrepreneurship and want to try to do a business out of my ideas. I have extensive business and small ideas because I’m unsure where to start, and the ideas differ. For example, one idea I have is to create a hair care brand because I love to do hair and try different products. Another is a clothing brand because I spend a lot of time looking at different outfits and looks. My small ideas include bead bracelets and making design art on jeans. I feel like my ideas are a little all over the place, but that’s good in a way because I can try different things to see if they would be successful or not.
I’ve always dreamed of being a model, so if plan A doesn’t work, that’s the second route I would go. I know I have the build for it, so I'd like to take advantage of what God gave me. I would have to maintain a stable job, so I'd continue to work at the Kaneohe Yacht Club. I currently work as a hostess, but eventually, I will work my way up to bartending. Bartenders surprisingly get paid very well, so I would save that money and invest in my modeling career. This job would pay for my portfolio and everything else I would need to get started as a beginning model. I would work my way up in the industry and eventually move to new york for better opportunities.
Also, I would invest in stocks to help me be more financially stable. Stocks are not as easy to understand as people think it is. You have to learn about the stock market and how trading works. The stock market can be difficult because you have to predict how sales will go, which can be somewhat tricky. However, it would be a great investment to learn about and get good at. Even though I would not be in college, I’ve noticed that I'm always wanting to learn about something. I’m a curious person. I will be sure I’m being educated about something even though it wouldn’t be academics. I hate to be stagnant. A life without education of some sort is boring to me.
This response could sound strange to many people, but ASMR has been more normalized over the years, and this would be my wildcard plan. ASMR stands for Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response. While watching these videos, people feel euphoria and a tingling sensation that starts at the scalp and works its way down the body. I have loved ASMR ever since it came about on youtube. ASMR can be perceived as strange but is well loved and appreciated by those in the ASMR community. It relieves stress, insomnia, and depression, and it all together helps with relaxation. My freshman year of high school was when I began to watch a video every night to help with my anxiety and ADD so I could sleep at night. Id It includes things like soap shaving, finger tapping, and whispering. There are many categories of ASMR, and you can be as creative as you’d like. For example, there are different role plays like doctor exams, teachers, rainy days, and even ones like fairies. I’m, in fact, thinking about starting my ASMR channel very soon. I just have to save for the materials and will be an ASMRtist.
This activity surprised me because I didn’t think I knew much about myself. This activity helped me think about myself and my genuine likings. I also realized that I could take more than one life path and do all my plans if I wanted to. College is not everything and it makes me feel more comfortable knowing that no matter what direction I choose, I will make it out successful. I like to constantly push myself to be great at what I do, significantly if it raises interest. My future looks pretty bright, and I say that with confidence. I don’t have to get upset if one plan doesn’t work out. I just have to take a step back and revise and edit an area to help accomplish my goals. Im going to try to do all these plans because they seem fun and enjoyable, which is a meaningful life. I will leave this world knowing that I had a good time, and that’s what truly matters to me.
